Job Description
Summary
Manage federal budgets, provide expert financial guidance, and ensure fiscal compliance for a dynamic government agency.
Join a federal agency in a critical financial management role, overseeing budget formulation and execution. This position supports financial operations and advises leadership on fiscal matters.
Key Responsibilities:
For GS-12:
- Establish and track financial goals, timetables, and budget milestones.
- Advise management on fund status, availability, obligations, and expenses using SAP and CBP financial systems.
- Develop and maintain budget-related products, including spreadsheets.
- Implement solutions for budget issues in compliance with government regulations.
For GS-13:
- Direct annual and multi-year appropriations, allotments, and fund transfers.
- Provide expert budget process advice to management and field staff, recommending plan changes.
- Develop strategies for presenting budget requests, adhering to appropriations laws and agency policy.
- Interpret and assess the impact of new legislation on budget formulation and execution.
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports, studies, and correspondence.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Experience:
- GS-12: Minimum 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11, focusing on financial goal setting, fund advising, budget product development, and regulatory compliance.
- GS-13: Minimum 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12, focusing on directing appropriations, providing expert budget advice, strategy development, and legislative interpretation.
- All qualifying experience, including paid and unpaid/volunteer work, will be credited. Your resume must explicitly detail how you meet these requirements.
General Requirements:
- Time in Grade: Current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
- Background Investigation: Successful completion of a thorough background investigation, including criminal history and drug use screening.
- Residency: Must have physically resided in the U.S. or its protectorates for at least 3 of the last 5 years, unless eligible for an exception (e.g., U.S. government service).
- Probationary Period: New federal employees will serve a one-year probationary period.
