## Border Patrol Program Specialist (GS-12)
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking a highly skilled professional to support Border Patrol operations through strategic analysis and direct law enforcement functions.
### Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Border Patrol managers to define and develop objectives.
- Analyze program data and metrics, recommending best practices and improvements.
- Assist with diverse projects, including enforcement operations, intelligence collection, and logistical support.
- Generate reports from operational databases to inform budget recommendations.
- Perform essential law enforcement duties, including making arrests and exercising sound judgment in firearm use.
- Effectively manage interactions with individuals and groups in law enforcement situations.
- Rapidly analyze information and make prompt, appropriate law enforcement decisions.
- Develop and maintain a network of informants.
- *Experience:**
- **Specialized Experience (GS-12):** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, performing duties similar to those listed above (e.g., collaborating on objectives, reviewing metrics, assisting projects, creating budget reports).
- **Law Enforcement Prerequisite:** Demonstrated ability in law enforcement or equivalent work to: make arrests, use firearms responsibly, deal effectively with the public in law enforcement matters, analyze information quickly, and develop informant networks.
- **Time in Grade (Federal Employees):** Must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade (GS-11) or equivalent.
- *Mandatory Requirements:**
- **Language Proficiency:** Proficient in Spanish (speaking and reading).
- **Firearms Qualification:** Meet initial and ongoing federal firearms qualifications. Ineligibility includes felony convictions, outstanding warrants, unlawful drug use, certain restraining orders, or domestic violence misdemeanors.
- **Medical & Physical:** Successfully complete a medical screening, demonstrating capability to perform duties safely and efficiently.
- **Background Investigation:** Undergo a thorough background investigation, including questions on criminal history and drug use.
- **Polygraph Examination:** Required for non-current CBP law enforcement employees (potential for waiver/reciprocity for veterans or prior federal exams).
- **Retirement Coverage:** This is a Secondary Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) Retirement Covered Position. Requires a mandatory prerequisite of prior experience in a primary/rigorous LEO position without a break in service.
