This GS-13 position supports Border Patrol operations through data analysis, project assistance, and reporting, requiring extensive law enforcement experience and Spanish proficiency.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seeks a qualified individual for a GS-13 position to support Border Patrol operations. This role involves analytical, project management, and reporting responsibilities.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Collaborate with Border Patrol management to develop operational objectives.
  • Analyze Border Patrol data and program metrics to recommend best practices.
  • Assist with enforcement operations, intelligence collection, and logistical support projects.
  • Generate reports from operational databases to inform budget recommendations.
  • *Qualifications & Requirements:**
  • **Experience:** One year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent. This includes previous law enforcement work demonstrating the ability to:
* Make arrests and exercise sound judgment with firearms. * Interact effectively and tactfully with diverse groups in law enforcement contexts. * Rapidly analyze information and make prompt, appropriate law enforcement decisions. * Develop and maintain informant networks.
  • **Secondary LEO Retirement:** This is a Secondary Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) retirement-covered position. Eligibility typically requires prior rigorous LEO service (minimum 3 years) with no break, as defined by federal regulations.
  • **Mandatory Prerequisite:** Requires prior experience in a primary/rigorous law enforcement or firefighting role, or equivalent non-federal experience. (Exemption applies if currently in a permanent Secondary LEO Retirement-covered position).
  • **Language:** Must be proficient in Spanish (speaking and reading).
  • **Firearms:** Must meet initial and ongoing federal firearms qualifications (Gun Control Act/Lautenberg Amendment). Disqualifiers include felony convictions, outstanding warrants, unlawful controlled substance use, mental health adjudications, non-citizen status, renounced U.S. citizenship, domestic violence restraining orders, or misdemeanor domestic violence convictions.
  • **Medical:** Successful completion of a medical screening is mandatory post-offer, ensuring physical and medical capability to perform job duties safely.
  • **Time in Grade:** Current federal employees must meet Time in Grade requirements (52 weeks at GS-12 equivalent) by 09/26/2025.
  • **Political Appointee Disclosure:** Required for any current or past political appointee status within the last 5 years.
  • *Pre-Employment Process:**
  • **Background Investigation:** A thorough background investigation is mandatory, covering criminal history, drug use, and adherence to CBP's core values.
  • **Polygraph Examination:** This position requires a polygraph exam for non-CBP law enforcement employees. Reciprocity for prior federal polygraphs and waivers for certain veterans may be available.
