Summary
Oversee and direct Border Patrol operations, policy, and programs, requiring extensive law enforcement experience and Spanish fluency.
This GS-14 level position involves providing critical technical and administrative leadership for Border Patrol operations within an assigned area. You will be responsible for supervising programs, directing policy initiatives, and ensuring effective law enforcement functions.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Provide technical and administrative direction for all Border Patrol functions.
- Supervise and manage operational programs and their support systems.
- Direct local policy and program initiatives specific to Border Patrol operations.
- Develop and manage operational policies and programs.
- *Qualifications:**
- **Experience:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, performing duties such as supervising/managing operational programs, directing policy, or providing technical oversight for Border Patrol functions.
- **Law Enforcement Expertise:** Demonstrated ability to:
- *Mandatory Requirements:**
- **Language:** Must be proficient in Spanish (speaking and reading).
- **Firearms:** Meet initial and ongoing firearms qualifications. Ineligible with specific disqualifying factors (e.g., felony convictions, domestic violence crimes).
- **Medical:** Successfully complete a comprehensive medical screening to ensure physical and medical capability for duties.
- **Background Investigation:** Undergo a thorough federal background investigation covering criminal history, drug use, and personal conduct.
- **Polygraph Examination:** Required for most applicants (exceptions may apply for current CBP law enforcement employees, polygraph reciprocity, or veteran waivers).
- **Retirement Prerequisite (Administrative LEO):** Mandatory prior experience in a primary/rigorous law enforcement or firefighting position (Federal or non-Federal), unless currently serving in a permanent Secondary LEO position.
- **Time in Grade:** Current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the GS-13 level (or equivalent) by the specified deadline.
- *Additional Information:**
- This is a Secondary Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) position subject to special retirement provisions, requiring prior service in a rigorous LEO position.
- Qualifying experience includes both paid and unpaid (volunteer) work.
