U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking a qualified individual for a GS-14 level position providing leadership and oversight for Border Patrol functions. This role demands extensive law enforcement experience and strategic program management skills.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Provide technical and administrative direction for Border Patrol operations within an assigned area.
  • Supervise and manage operational programs and their support functions.
  • Direct local policy and program initiatives.
  • Develop and guide operational policies related to Border Patrol activities.
  • *Required Qualifications & Experience:**
  • **Experience:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, performing duties related to Border Patrol operations management, or extensive experience demonstrating:
* Ability to make arrests and exercise sound judgment in firearm use. * Effective and tactful interaction with individuals/groups in law enforcement matters. * Rapid information analysis and prompt decision-making/action. * Developing and maintaining informant networks.
  • **Law Enforcement Prerequisite:** This administrative position requires mandatory prior experience in a primary/rigorous law enforcement or firefighting role, or equivalent non-federal experience. (Exemption applies for current permanent Secondary LEOs).
  • **Language Proficiency:** Must be proficient in the Spanish language (able to speak and read).
  • **Firearms Requirement:** Meet initial and ongoing qualifications for firearm use. Ineligible if convicted of specific disqualifying crimes (e.g., felonies, domestic violence).
  • **Medical & Physical:** Successfully complete a medical screening to ensure capability for essential job functions.
  • **Background & Security:**
* Pass a thorough background investigation. * Successfully complete a polygraph examination (veterans and current CBP LEOs may be eligible for waivers/reciprocity). * Meet all federal qualification requirements and time-in-grade (for current federal employees).

This position is subject to mandatory retirement under special provisions for law enforcement officers.
