Summary

Direct and manage Border Patrol operations and policy, requiring extensive law enforcement experience and Spanish language proficiency.

This position involves providing leadership and oversight for Border Patrol operations within an assigned area, focusing on administrative and technical direction.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Provide technical and administrative direction for all Border Patrol functions within an assigned area.
  • Supervise, manage, and direct operational programs and their support functions.
  • Direct local policy and program initiatives.
  • Develop and manage operational policies and programs related to Border Patrol operations.
  • *Minimum Qualifications (GS-14 Level):**
  • One year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level, or equivalent, demonstrating:
* Providing technical and administrative direction for Border Patrol functions. * Supervising or managing operational programs. * Directing local policy and program development. * Developing and managing Border Patrol operational policies.
  • **Law Enforcement Abilities:** Proven ability to:
* Execute arrests and exercise sound judgment in firearm use. * Engage effectively and tactfully with individuals and groups in law enforcement contexts. * Rapidly analyze information and make prompt decisions or actions. * Develop and maintain an informant network.
  • **Language Requirement:** Proficiency in speaking and reading Spanish.
  • **Firearms Requirement:** Must meet initial and ongoing qualifications for firearm use, as outlined by federal law, and have no disqualifying criminal or personal history.
  • **Medical Requirements:** Successfully complete a medical screening to ensure physical capability to perform essential job functions safely.
  • *Pre-Employment Requirements:**
  • **Background Investigation:** Successful completion of a thorough background investigation.
  • **Polygraph Examination:** May be required to take and pass a polygraph exam (reciprocity or waiver options may be available).
  • **Federal Service:** Current federal employees must meet Time in Grade requirements (52 weeks at GS-13).
  • **Retirement Coverage:** This is a secondary law enforcement officer position subject to special retirement provisions, requiring prior rigorous law enforcement experience (typically 3 years in a primary/rigorous LEO role).
  • **Political Appointee Disclosure:** Required if applicable.
