## Auditor (GS-13)
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a federal law enforcement agency, is seeking a highly skilled Auditor (GS-13) to perform complex audits, interpret trade laws, and support investigations into civil and criminal negligence and fraud.
### Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and conduct complex audits of large national or multinational corporations, adhering to Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS) or Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
- Research, interpret, and apply import/export laws, trade policies, and legal rulings to develop clear and persuasive audit reports.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and leadership, providing briefings and comprehensive recommendations.
- Conduct specialized assignments supporting civil and criminal negligence and fraud investigations.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and evaluate the work of junior auditors, fostering teamwork.
#### 1. Basic Qualification (Choose One): * **Education:** A Bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Auditing, Business Administration, Finance, or Public Administration, including or supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in accounting (up to 6 hours may be in business law). *Official transcripts required.* * **Combination of Education & Experience:** At least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and professional accounting training. This option also requires one of the following: * 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing (up to 6 hours in business law). *Official transcripts required.* * Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) obtained via written examination. *Provide certification.* * A degree with substantial accounting/auditing coursework (e.g., 15 semester hours), combined with successful full-performance level accounting/auditing work and a determination by senior accountants that your knowledge equals a 4-year accounting degree. *Official transcripts required.*
#### 2. Specialized Experience (GS-13 Level): * Minimum of one year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 federal service level, performing duties similar to those listed in "Key Responsibilities" above. Your resume *must* explicitly detail how you meet this requirement.
### Additional Requirements:
- **U.S. Citizenship:** Required.
- **Background Investigation:** Successful completion of a thorough background investigation is mandatory for employment with CBP, a federal law enforcement agency. This includes inquiries into felony convictions and drug use.
- **Residency:** Must have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years. Exceptions may be considered for U.S. government employees/dependents, study abroad, or government contractors/volunteers.
- **Probationary Period:** New federal employees must serve a one-year probationary period.
- **Time in Grade:** Current federal employees must meet specific time-in-grade requirements (e.g., 52 weeks at the next lower grade level).
- **Volunteer Experience:** Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, will be credited.
- **Political Appointee Disclosure:** Required for current or former political appointees within the last 5 years.
