Job Description

Summary

Lead complex federal financial management, guide staff, and develop strategic accounting solutions for federal appropriations.

This senior accounting role involves leading financial operations, guiding staff, and developing strategic solutions within a federal appropriations framework. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance and optimizing financial processes.

  • *Responsibilities:**
  • Serve as a senior accountant, providing guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff.
  • Conduct in-depth reviews and analyses of complex accounting documents, reports, policies, and procedures, specifically involving federal appropriations and accounts.
  • Advise on and recommend innovative solutions for intricate financial management administration issues.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term financial management goals and objectives.
  • *Qualifications:**
To qualify at the GS-15 level, applicants must meet the **Basic Requirements** listed below and possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level.

  • *Basic Requirements (Choose One):**
  • **Education:**
* A degree in Accounting. * A degree in a related field (e.g., business administration, finance, public administration) that includes at least 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing (up to 6 hours may be in business law).
  • **Experience & Education:**
* Four years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training, PLUS meeting one of the following criteria: * Completion of 24 semester hours of college-level accounting or auditing courses (up to 6 hours may be in business law). * Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). * Completion of a degree with substantial coursework in accounting or auditing (e.g., 15 semester hours) combined with successful work experience in accounting, auditing, or a related financial field demonstrating strong accounting knowledge and equivalent full-performance level experience.

  • *Specialized Experience (GS-15 Level):**

One year of experience equivalent to the GS-14 level, performing duties such as:

  • Providing guidance and oversight to lower-level accounting staff.
  • Reviewing and analyzing highly complex accounting documents, reports, and policies related to federal appropriations and accounts.
  • Developing and recommending solutions for significant financial management challenges.
  • Establishing strategic short-and long-term financial management goals.
  • *Time-in-Grade Requirement (for Current/Former Federal Employees):**
  • Applicants currently or previously holding a General Schedule position must have served 52 weeks at the GS-14 level within the competitive or excepted service.
  • *Required Application Documents:**
  • **Transcripts:** Required for all education-based qualifications. Failure to provide transcripts will result in an ineligible rating.
  • **SF-50(s):** Current or former Federal employees must submit SF-50(s) as proof of status, grade, step, tenure, type of service, and time-in-grade eligibility.
