Summary
Represent the government in complex tax litigation before the U.S. Tax Court, requiring advanced legal and tax expertise.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury is seeking a highly skilled Trial Attorney (Tax) to represent the government in complex tax cases before the U.S. Tax Court.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Serve as principal attorney managing all aspects of complex tax case development, preparation, and presentation.
- Conduct discovery, draft pretrial motions, trial memoranda, and complex legal briefs.
- Apply comprehensive knowledge of Federal tax statutes, regulations, and IRS tax policies.
- Exercise sound judgment and resourcefulness in handling intricate cases.
- *Minimum Qualifications:**
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active member in good standing of the bar of a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- *Experience Requirements (GS-15 Level):**
- **Total Legal Experience:** 4 years of professional legal experience gained *after* Bar Admission, including:
- At least one year of this experience must be equivalent to the GS-14 federal service level.
- *Education Substitution:**
- An LL.M. degree (in tax, GLS-related, or P&A-FOIA/Disclosure field) may substitute for the 1 year of general legal experience.
- *Additional Information:**
- All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, will be considered.
- Federal employees must meet the 52-week time-in-grade requirement at the GS-14 level.
