## Recreation Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Recreation Therapist to provide comprehensive, evidence-based therapeutic interventions for patients with complex medical and mental health conditions.

### Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently administer and interpret recreation therapy assessments, utilizing diverse approaches to gather patient information.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans for patients with complex conditions, including polytrauma, TBI, PTSD, SCI, substance use disorder, serious mental illness, and hospice/palliative care needs.
  • Provide direct patient care with general supervision, managing complex cases with independent judgment.
  • Recommend and integrate adaptive equipment, modifications, and assistive technology into treatment plans.
  • Design individualized interventions focusing on stress reduction, motor function recovery, confidence building, and essential life skills development.
  • Employ sophisticated techniques such as behavioral interventions, relaxation, social skills training, anger/pain management, and community reintegration strategies.
  • Continuously monitor the effectiveness of interventions, making adjustments as needed, and evaluating protocols for targeted groups through quantitative analysis.
  • Participate actively in co-treatment opportunities, including neurological rehabilitation, mental health recovery programs, and palliative care.
  • Conduct thorough discharge analysis and planning to facilitate successful community reintegration.
  • Balance multiple responsibilities, set priorities, delegate tasks, and meet deadlines, demonstrating strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Apply evidence-based practices and clinical guidelines, and contribute to administrative functions such as fiscal, material, equipment, and program management.
### Qualifications:

  • *Citizenship:**
  • United States Citizenship is required.
  • *Education & Certification:**
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution with a major in therapeutic recreation or recreation/leisure (with a therapeutic recreation emphasis), approved by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC); or
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in any field from an accredited institution and Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification, approved by the NCTRC. If hired under this option, certification is mandatory and cannot be waived.
  • *Experience:**
  • Minimum of one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, demonstrating independent judgment in complex cases, advanced assessment skills, and the ability to design and implement sophisticated, evidence-based interventions.
  • *Skills & Abilities:**
  • Ability to independently manage complex cases and balance multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills to develop and implement solutions for operational efficiency and workload management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for collaboration with colleagues, team leaders, and managers.
  • Proficiency in applying evidence-based practices and clinical guidelines.
  • Knowledge of organizational theories and administrative functions, including fiscal and program management.
  • English language proficiency (spoken and written).
### Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform duties including heavy lifting and carrying (45+ lbs), pushing, use of fingers, walking and standing (up to 8 hours), repeated bending, kneeling.
  • Near and far vision corrected to specified levels, ability to distinguish colors and shades, and adequate hearing (aid permitted).
