Summary
Lead a medical coding team as a GS-10 Medical Records Technician, performing advanced coding and staff management.
This is a supervisory Medical Records Technician (Coder) position at the GS-10 level, focusing on advanced medical coding and team leadership.
- *Responsibilities (GS-10):**
- Supervise staff, including performance evaluation, leave approval, conflict resolution, and work assignment.
- Plan and coordinate work to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Apply advanced knowledge of current coding classification systems (ICD, CPT, HCPCS) for outpatient, inpatient, or combined subspecialties.
- Develop and coordinate staff training.
- Demonstrate strong leadership, managerial, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Collect, analyze data, identify trends, and present results.
- *Requirements:**
- *Basic Qualifications:**
- **Citizenship:** United States Citizenship.
- **English Language:** Proficient in spoken and written English.
- **Certification:** Mastery Level Certification through AHIMA or AAPC.
- *Experience & Education (One of the following):**
- **Experience:** One year of creditable experience with medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, medical coding, and health record structure.
- **Education:** An Associate's degree in Health Information Technology/Management or a related field (minimum 12 semester hours in HIT/HIM courses).
- **Coding Program:** Completion of an AHIMA-approved or similar intense coding program (approx. 1 year+), including anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, basic ICD, and CPT coding, leading to certification eligibility from an accredited institution.
- **Combined Experience/Education:**
- *GS-10 Specific Experience:**
- One year of creditable experience equivalent to the GS-09 level for a MRT (Coder-Outpatient and Inpatient).
