Summary

Supervise medical coding operations, manage staff, and apply advanced coding expertise for accurate health record documentation.

Join our team as a Supervisory Medical Records Technician (Coder), GS-10, where you will lead and manage medical coding operations.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Supervise, evaluate, and develop coding staff, including work assignment, performance management, and conflict resolution.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of current medical coding classification systems (ICD, CPT, HCPCS) for various subspecialties.
  • Analyze coding data, identify trends, and present results effectively.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all coding duties.
  • *Required Qualifications:**
  • **Experience:** One year of creditable experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in medical coding.
  • **Education & Initial Experience Options (select one):**
* One year of experience demonstrating knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, medical coding, and health record structure. * An Associate's Degree in Health Information Technology/Management (or related field with at least 12 semester hours in HIT/HIM courses). * Completion of an AHIMA-approved or intensive 1-year coding program including anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and basic ICD/CPT coding, leading to certification eligibility. * Equivalent combinations of experience and education, such as: six months of relevant experience plus one year post-high school education with 6 semester hours in HIT; or relevant Armed Forces/U.S. Maritime Service medical training (up to 6 months) combined with six additional months of creditable experience.
  • **Certification:** Current Mastery Level Certification from AHIMA or AAPC is required.
  • **Citizenship:** Must be a United States Citizen.
