Supervise and lead medical coding operations with advanced classification system expertise and staff development responsibilities.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is seeking a skilled Supervisory Medical Record Technician (Coder) at the GS-10 level. This critical role involves advanced medical coding, oversight of coding staff, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of health record documentation within a federal healthcare environment.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Lead and supervise a team of medical coders, including work assignment, performance evaluation, leave approval, and conflict resolution.
- Apply expert knowledge of current coding classification systems (ICD, CPT, HCPCS) for outpatient, inpatient, or combined specialties.
- Coordinate and deliver staff training and development programs to enhance coding proficiency.
- Utilize strong leadership and interpersonal skills to manage employees and resolve team issues.
- Collect, analyze, and present coding data, identifying trends to improve operational efficiency.
- *Requirements:**
- **Citizenship:** U.S. Citizenship required.
- **Experience:** A minimum of one year of specialized creditable experience equivalent to the GS-9 level as a Medical Record Technician (Coder).
- **Certification:** Current Mastery Level Certification from AHIMA or AAPC, such as:
- **Skills:** Demonstrated abilities in supervision, advanced medical coding, staff training, leadership, and data analysis.
- **Physical Demands:** Primarily sedentary work.
