**Minimum Qualifications:**
* **Engineering Degree:** A Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
* **OR** a Bachelor's degree including differential and integral calculus and advanced coursework in at least five of the following engineering science or physics areas: statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical fields/circuits, nature/properties of materials, or other comparable fundamental engineering science.
* **Alternative Qualifications (if no direct engineering degree):** A combination of education and experience demonstrating thorough knowledge of physical/mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and a practical/theoretical understanding of engineering sciences. This can be demonstrated by:
* Professional registration (Engineer Intern, Engineer in Training, or Professional Engineer).
* Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or equivalent.
* At least 60 semester hours in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences (as specified above).
* A Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field (e.g., Engineering Technology, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Hydrology, Geology) combined with at least one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.
**Specialized Experience (Equivalent to GS-14 level):**
Candidates must possess one year of specialized experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of this position. This experience includes:
* Managing or leading a Science, Technology, or Engineering (STE) team within an organization.
* Representing an agency or organization to diverse stakeholders (e.g., senior leaders, international counterparts).
* Serving as a Senior Engineer and Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one or more of the following preferred areas:
* Materials science (fission/fusion energy production)
* Thermodynamics, heat transfer, and energy production
* Radiation physics principles in industrial applications
* Nuclear energy and technologies
* Applications involving physics, nuclear sciences, or technologies
* Thermodynamics or energy resilience studies in munitions systems
* Chemistry, biotechnology, chemical/biological warfare agents
* Chemical processes/systems in industry
* Applications involving chemical, biological, or health sciences
* Nonproliferation processes
* Machine design and development, automation, and control systems
* Aerospace or mechanical processes (design, analysis, manufacturing, maintenance of mechanical systems)
* Applications involving mechanical systems/technologies or robotics/electronics processes.
