Summary
Lead Capital One's strategic acquisition of new credit card partners, driving business development, deal negotiation, and team leadership.
Capital One is seeking a Director of Business Development, Strategic Partnerships, to aggressively expand our partner credit card segment through new partner acquisitions. This isn't a typical business development role; it requires a strategic leader with strong business acumen, a passion for driving results, and a balanced GM and business development mindset. You will significantly influence Capital One’s new partnership acquisition strategy from identification to successful recruitment, leading complex deal negotiations and managing cross-functional teams.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Lead Capital One’s new partner acquisition strategy, identifying target businesses and developing winning approaches.
- Influence business development strategy by deeply understanding the marketplace, competitors, and Capital One’s positioning.
- Drive communication with industry consultants and prospective partners.
- Lead cross-functional teams to develop and approve comprehensive RFP responses.
- Structure, negotiate, and finalize new deals, renewals, and contracts in a competitive environment.
- Manage the entire deal pipeline, from engagement and due diligence through negotiation and signing.
- Develop tailored pitch strategies and guide the creation of presentation materials for key decision-makers.
- Cultivate and sustain complex internal and external relationships, influencing across business lines and senior leadership.
- Seamlessly transition new client relationships to client strategy teams.

- Experience in strategic marketing planning and product development.

- Aptitude for deal economics and sensitivities, especially in financial services and consumer credit.

- Willingness and ability to travel as needed for business development.
- *Basic Qualifications:**
- Bachelor’s Degree or military experience.
- At least 4 years of leadership experience in general management, business development, corporate development, or partnerships acquisition.
- *Preferred Qualifications:**
- MBA or Master’s degree.
- 8+ years experience in consulting, corporate development, financial services client development, or financial services partnership management.
- 4+ years of experience with consumer credit-related financial products, ideally credit cards.
- 2+ years of people management experience.
