Job Description
Summary
The VA seeks Psychologists (GS-11 to GS-13) for comprehensive assessment and evidence-based psychological treatment.
The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking skilled Psychologists (GS-11 to GS-13) to provide comprehensive psychological services to our veteran population.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Apply professional psychological treatments and assessment methods across diverse patient populations.
- Design and implement effective treatment strategies, incorporating new clinical procedures.
- Conduct or support research activities, including designing clinical projects or performing basic research tasks within a team.
- Provide professional advice and consultation on psychological and behavioral health matters (GS-13).
- Conduct differential diagnoses of trauma, stressor, anxiety, personality, and mood disorders (preferred).
- Deliver evidence-based psychotherapies, including CPT, PE, CBT for SUD, MI, MET, WET, and EMDR (preferred).
- *Qualifications:**
- **Citizenship:** U.S. Citizen.
- **Language:** Proficient in spoken and written English.
- **Education:** Doctoral degree in Psychology from an APA, PCSAS, or CPA accredited program at the time of completion. Specific historical degrees or re-specialization programs may also qualify.
- **Internship:** Successful completion of an APA or CPA accredited professional psychology internship program. Specific VA internships or current board certification by ABPP may also fulfill this requirement.
- **Licensure:** Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a U.S. State, Territory, or D.C.
- *Grade Determinations & Experience:**
- **GS-11 (Entry Level):** No experience beyond basic requirements.
- **GS-12 (Developmental Level):** At least one year of professional psychologist experience equivalent to GS-11, with demonstrated ability to apply a wide range of treatments/assessments, design strategies, incorporate new procedures, and conduct/support research.
- **GS-13 (Full Performance Level):** At least two years of professional psychologist experience, including one year equivalent to GS-12, with demonstrated ability to apply a full range of treatments and provide professional consultation.
- *Preferred Experience:**
- Current licensure within the discipline.
- Experience providing evidence-based psychotherapies for PTSD and SUD (e.g., CPT, Prolonged Exposure, CBT for SUD, Motivational Interviewing, Motivational Enhancement Therapy).
- Experience with differential diagnosis of Trauma and Stressor-related disorders, anxiety disorders, personality, and mood disorders.
- Prior experience as a therapist within the VA, including at least one year of clinical experience in substance use treatment.
- Experience with additional trauma therapies (e.g., Written Exposure Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
- Experience with personality assessment.
