## Social Science Specialist (Crisis Responder) - GS-11

Join our team as a Social Science Specialist (Crisis Responder) to provide critical, evidence-based crisis intervention to individuals in need. This role involves responding to urgent situations across various communication channels while maintaining professional neutrality.

### Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver evidence-based crisis intervention using diverse modalities (e.g., telephone, chat, text, social media).
  • Execute crisis management protocols, prioritizing complex problems and responding swiftly.
  • Maintain a non-judgmental approach, refraining from imposing personal values during interactions.
  • Manage emotionally charged situations with extreme patience and emotional control.
### Qualifications:

  • *Basic Requirements:**
  • **Citizenship:** U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • **Language:** Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • **Education & Experience (Meet one of the following):**
* Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution in a behavioral health or social science-related field (e.g., psychology, social work, sociology, family counseling, mental health counseling, nursing, ministry, criminal justice). * **or** Two years of specialized experience as a first responder (e.g., Police, Medic, EMT, Emergency Dispatch) or in a social science field including behavioral health crisis response, combined with two years of higher education in a behavioral health or social science-related field. * **or** Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any field, PLUS one year of specialized experience in behavioral health crisis response or mental health counseling.

  • *GS-11 Specific Requirements (in addition to Basic Requirements):**
  • One year of creditable experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level, directly related to the position.
  • **or** A Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited institution in a behavioral health-related field (e.g., psychology, social work, sociology, family counseling).
  • *Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):**
  • Ability to provide evidence-based crisis intervention through various modalities (e.g., telephone interviews, chat/text services, social media).
  • Skilled in carrying out crisis management steps while withholding judgment and not imposing personal values.
  • Aptitude for quickly prioritizing complex problems and responding appropriately in crisis situations.
### Physical Requirements:
  • Primarily sedentary work requiring extreme patience and emotional control. No pre-placement physical examination required.
