Senior Social Worker (GS-12) provides advanced, independent clinical social work, specializing in Veteran care and program development.
Join the VA as a Senior Social Worker (GS-12), providing advanced, independent clinical social work services and program development for Veterans in specialized program areas.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Provide independent clinical social work services, including individual, group, and family counseling/psychotherapy.
- Conduct advanced psychosocial assessments and case management, assessing for abuse, neglect, exploitation, or intimate partner violence.
- Act as an advocate for Veterans and their families with VA and community providers.
- Apply complex differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges.
- Develop and implement methods for measuring social work practice effectiveness and contribute to system changes.
- Provide specialized consultation and mentorship to colleagues and students.
- Manage administrative responsibility for clinical program development, effectiveness, and service pattern modification.
- Ensure Veteran privacy, confidentiality, equity of access, and high-quality care.
- *Requirements:**
- **Citizenship:** United States Citizenship.
- **Education:** Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program.
- **Licensure:** Current state licensure/certification to independently practice social work at the advanced master's degree level (e.g., advanced generalist or clinical examination), with the ability to provide supervision for licensure.
- **Experience:**
- **Language:** Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- **Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (GS-12):**
- *Preferred Qualifications:**
- Familiarity with VA Suicide Prevention Program or Urgent Care settings.
- Experience with Veterans diagnosed with serious mental illness.
- Proficiency in evidence-based practices within a Veteran-centric environment.
- Two or more years of specialized social work practice in mental health and substance abuse treatment.
- Certification or post-master's training from a nationally recognized professional organization/university.
- *Work Environment:**
- Full-time permanent position; some ad-hoc telework permitted.
- Clinical settings, potentially with limited onsite supervision (e.g., CBOCs).
- May involve exposure to communicable diseases in urgent care settings. Minimal physical activity required.
