## Writing & Training Specialist (U.S. Senate)

The U.S. Senate seeks a dedicated Writing & Training Specialist to design, develop, and deliver impactful writing skills instruction. This essential, on-site role supports Senate staff across various departments, requiring strong communication, instructional design expertise, and commitment to operational demands.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • **Instructional Design & Delivery:** Design, develop, and deliver professional writing skills training programs.
  • **Needs Assessment:** Conduct thorough analyses to identify specific training needs for Senate staff.
  • **Curriculum Development:** Create engaging instructional materials and select effective teaching methodologies.
  • **Professional Presentation:** Deliver clear and concise training to diverse audiences, from staff to senior leaders.
  • **Interpersonal Communication:** Effectively interact and collaborate with all organizational levels and external partners.
  • *Required Qualifications:**
  • **Experience:**
* 5+ years in a communications or writing-intensive professional role. * 2+ years focused on designing and delivering writing skills instruction or training.
  • **Skills & Knowledge:**
* Proven expertise in curriculum development, instructional design, and adult learning principles. * Strong knowledge of writing processes, communication theories, and stylistics. * Ability to conduct professional presentations and facilitate training effectively. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Capacity to learn and apply Senate-specific rules, regulations, and operational procedures.

  • *Desired Attributes:**
  • Demonstrated success in teaching writing fundamentals and fostering strong writers.
  • Experience in program development and growth within a dynamic environment.
  • Comfort engaging with senior leaders and elected officials, exercising discretion.
  • Advanced academic credentials (graduate coursework, certifications) in English, writing, or communications.
  • Prior U.S. Senate experience is a plus.
  • *Working Conditions:**
  • **Essential On-Site Role:** Requires mandatory on-site presence to support the U.S. Senate.
  • **Operational Availability:** Must be prepared to work during government shutdowns, inclement weather, holidays, late nights, and weekends to ensure continuous essential services. This position is classified as "excepted" during furloughs.
  • **Physical Demands:** Ability to remain stationary (50%), move occasionally within the office, constantly operate a computer, observe details closely, and communicate effectively.
