## Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) - GS-11/GS-12

Join the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, providing essential mental health services to veterans. We are seeking qualified professionals for both Full Performance (GS-11) and Senior (GS-12) level positions.

### Key Responsibilities (Senior LPMHC - GS-12):

  • Provide advanced, independent treatment for veterans with complex mental health diagnoses and psychosocial issues.
  • Offer clinical consultation to less experienced staff and coordinate crisis situations.
  • Provide clinical supervision to LPMHC staff and/or trainees.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, developing and conducting behavioral health training programs.
  • Model ethical, professional behaviors and multicultural awareness.
  • Collaborate with interprofessional teams and stakeholders, frequently serving as a liaison.
  • Design and implement system changes based on data.
### Key Responsibilities (Full Performance LPMHC - GS-11):
  • Conduct professional evaluations, make treatment recommendations, and implement plans.
  • Provide complex crisis intervention and stabilization with independent judgment.
  • Establish collaborative treatment goals utilizing advanced counseling skills and evidence-based practices.
  • Employ a wide variety of individual, group, or family counseling interventions.
  • Utilize the current DSM for diagnosis, treatment goal formulation, and clinical intervention.
  • Develop and facilitate psychotherapy and psycho-education groups.
  • Provide subject matter consultation on the counseling process to colleagues and trainees.
### Qualifications:

  • *Basic Requirements (All Levels):**
  • **Citizenship:** United States Citizenship.
  • **Language:** Proficient in spoken and written English.
  • **Education:** Master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, or a related field, from a CACREP-accredited program. (Note: Traditional Rehabilitation counseling programs are not equivalent to Clinical Rehabilitation counseling for this role).
  • **Licensure:** Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, including diagnosis and treatment.
  • *GS-11 (Full Performance Level) Specific Requirements:**
  • **Experience:** At least one year of post-master's or post-doctoral degree mental health counseling experience.
  • **Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):**
* Ability to make professional evaluations, decisions, and recommendations for treatment planning. * Advanced knowledge and mastery of the counseling process. * Ability to provide complex crisis intervention and stabilization. * Skill in establishing collaborative treatment goals using advanced counseling skills. * Proficiency in various individual, group, or family counseling interventions. * Ability to utilize the DSM for diagnosis and treatment planning. * Ability to develop and facilitate psychotherapy and psycho-education groups. * Ability to provide subject matter consultation on the counseling process.

  • *GS-12 (Senior Level) Specific Requirements:**
  • **Experience:** At least one year of progressively complex LPMHC experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level and five years of post-licensed experience demonstrating advanced practice skills and judgment.
  • **Licensure:** Must be licensed to provide clinical supervision to trainees or unlicensed LPMHCs.
  • **Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (in addition to GS-11):**
* Advanced knowledge and mastery of theories/modalities for complex mental illness. * Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment. * Ability to determine priority of services and provide specialized treatment. * Expert skill in specialized interventions for Veterans with complex needs. * Ability to coordinate specialized psychosocial services and programs. * Ability to design system changes based on data. * Ability to provide subject matter consultation, rendering professional opinions and role modeling clinical skills. * Ability to teach, mentor staff/trainees, and provide supervision for licensure/certifications. * Ability to engage in high-level written and oral communication with leadership and stakeholders.
