Summary

Join our team as a Nurse, delivering comprehensive patient care across various experience levels at VHA.

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurses to provide high-quality patient care across various experience levels. Your grade and level will be determined by your education, experience, and demonstration of key nursing dimensions.

  • *Key Responsibilities (Vary by Grade Level):**
  • Deliver fundamental, knowledge-based patient care.
  • Integrate biopsychosocial concepts and technical skills.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in practice through deliberate planning.
  • Lead in delivering and improving holistic care via collaborative strategies.
  • Execute leadership responsibilities and creative approaches to complex client care.
  • *Basic Requirements:**
  • **English Language Proficiency:** Must be proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • **Education:**
* Graduate of a professional nursing school accredited by ACEN or CCNE at the time of graduation; or * Completion of coursework equivalent to a Bachelor's level degree in Nursing through a Master's level bridge program (temporary appointment until bridge program completion); or * Graduates of foreign nursing schools must possess current, full, active, unrestricted registration. Formal degree equivalency validation required for higher than associate degree/entry level.
  • **Licensure:** Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional nurse in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
* **Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception:** Candidates meeting education requirements but lacking licensure may be appointed temporarily (120 days, extendable up to 2 years) while actively pursuing licensure.

  • *Grade Determinations (Based on Education and Experience):**
  • **Nurse I, Level I:** Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing. Focus: Fundamental, knowledge-based care.
  • **Nurse I, Level II:** ADN/Diploma + 1 year specialized nursing experience; or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Focus: Integration of biopsychosocial concepts, technically competent practice.
  • **Nurse I, Level III:** ADN/Diploma + 2 years professional nursing experience (one year equivalent to Nurse I, Level II); OR BSN + 1 year professional nursing experience (equivalent to Nurse I, Level II); or Master's degree in Nursing (MSN); or Master's degree in a *related field with BSN. Focus: Proficiency in practice, self-directed in managing complex client situations.
  • **Nurse II:** BSN + 2 years professional nursing experience (equivalent to Nurse I, Level III); OR MSN + 1 year specialized nursing experience (equivalent to Nurse I, Level III); or Master's degree in a *related field with BSN + 1 year specialized nursing experience (equivalent to Nurse I, Level III); or Doctoral degree in Nursing; or Doctoral degree in a *related field with BSN. Focus: Leadership in delivering and improving holistic care.
  • **Nurse III:** MSN + 2 years specialized nursing experience (one year equivalent to Nurse II); or Master's degree in *related field with BSN + 2 years specialized nursing experience (one year equivalent to Nurse II); or Doctoral degree in Nursing + 1 year specialized nursing experience (equivalent to Nurse II); or Doctoral degree in a *related field with BSN + 1 year specialized nursing experience (equivalent to Nurse II). All Nurse III candidates must meet specific dimension requirements. Focus: Leadership and creative approaches to complex client care beyond immediate practice.
  • Note: Foreign education programs/degrees are not creditable as "related degrees." Full dimension requirements for each level are detailed in the online assessment.*
  • *Preferred Qualifications:**
  • BSN with 3-5 years Cardiac Pacemaker and Defibrillator experience.
  • Certification by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE CCDS, CCDRMS, CEPS) or NASP exam certification.
  • Experience with remote surveillance of cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators.
  • Substantial computer skills.
  • *Physical Requirements:**
  • Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, manual dexterity.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, sit, bend, pull, and push for extended periods; transfer patients/objects (mechanical lifts provided).
  • May be exposed to infected patients/contaminated materials, requiring protective clothing.
  • Occasional exposure to combative patients.
  • Complete annual Employee Health requirements.
  • May require driving/riding in GSA-vehicles for home/off-site care.
