## Professional Registered Nurse

### Key Responsibilities (Vary by Grade Level):

  • Provide fundamental to complex, knowledge-based patient care.
  • Integrate biopsychosocial concepts and demonstrate technical competency.
  • Manage complex client situations with conscious and deliberate planning.
  • Lead and improve holistic care through collaborative strategies.
  • Execute responsibilities demonstrating leadership in complex client care management beyond immediate practice settings.
### Minimum Basic Requirements:
  • **English Language Proficiency:** Proficient in basic written and spoken English, as required for direct patient care positions.
  • **Licensure:** Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.
  • **Education:** Graduate of a professional nursing school accredited by ACEN or CCNE.
* **Alternative Pathways:** * **Master's Bridge Program:** May be appointed temporarily with a state license prior to completing a master's bridge program; converted to permanent upon graduation. * **Foreign Schools:** Possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration meets the basic school requirement. Higher foreign degrees require formal equivalency validation (e.g., International Consultants of Delaware (ICD)). * **Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception:** Candidates meeting education but not licensure may be appointed temporarily (120 days, extendable up to 2 years) while actively pursuing licensure.

### Grade Determinations (Nurse I, II, III): Grade and level assignments are determined by Scope of practice, Education, and specific Dimension criteria (Practice, Veteran/Patient Driven Care, Leadership, Professional Development, and Evidence-Based Practice/Research).

  • **Nurse I, Level I:** Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing. Delivers fundamental care.
  • **Nurse I, Level II:** ADN/Diploma + 1 year specialized nursing experience (equivalent to Level I); or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • **Nurse I, Level III:** ADN/Diploma + 2 years professional nursing experience (1 year equivalent to Level II); OR BSN + 1 year professional nursing experience (equivalent to Level II); or Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or a related field with a BSN.
  • **Nurse II:** BSN + 2 years professional nursing experience (equivalent to Level III); OR MSN + 1 year specialized nursing experience (equivalent to Level III); or Master's in a related field with BSN + 1 year specialized nursing experience (equivalent to Level III); or Doctoral degree in Nursing or a related field with BSN.
  • **Nurse III:** MSN + 2 years specialized nursing experience (1 year equivalent to Nurse II); or Master's in a related field with BSN + 2 years specialized nursing experience (1 year equivalent to Nurse II); or Doctoral degree in Nursing or a related field with BSN + 1 year specialized nursing experience (equivalent to Nurse II).
* *Note:* Foreign education programs/degrees are not creditable as 'related degrees' for advanced grades.

### Preferred Experience:

  • BSN with progressive Leadership experience.
  • Five (5) years of Critical Care experience.
### Physical Requirements: This position demands visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. It requires potentially long periods of walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. The ability to transfer patients and objects is required (mechanical lifts are provided). Incumbents may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials, necessitating protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. Occasional exposure to combative patients (secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders) may occur. Annual Employee Health requirements must be met. For off-site care, driving/riding in GSA-vehicles may be required.
