Job Description

Summary

Skilled Therapeutic Recreation Specialist sought to plan and implement adaptive therapy programs for patient rehabilitation.

Join our team as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, delivering vital recreation therapy services to patients. We are seeking a dedicated professional to enhance patient well-being through innovative and adaptive therapeutic programs.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Evaluate patient history, interests, aptitudes, and skills to inform treatment.
  • Develop and implement individualized therapeutic recreation activities.
  • Create comprehensive treatment plans for patients experiencing physical, emotional, or social dysfunctions related to leisure.
  • Revise treatment plans based on patient progress, diagnoses, and responses to intervention.
  • Plan and lead a variety of adaptive recreational activities.
  • *Required Qualifications:**
  • **Education:**
* A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Art Therapy, Drama Therapy, Dance Therapy, or Music Therapy. * or a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field with a therapeutic emphasis, including at least 36 semester hours in therapeutic courses (18 hours in therapeutic recreation and 18 hours combining abnormal psychology, physiology, human anatomy and development, disabilities, and general recreation).
  • **Experience:**
* At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in federal service (or comparable professional experience), demonstrating the ability to successfully perform the duties listed above. * **or** 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or an equivalent doctoral degree. * **or** a combination of qualifying experience and graduate education (graduate-level education beyond the first 36 semester hours).
  • **Important Note on Experience:** Experience in activities or programs that did not require the application of therapeutic recreation principles (e.g., Outdoor Recreation Specialist, Commercial Recreation Leader, Vocational Counselor) is not considered qualifying.
  • *Preferred Qualifications:**
  • Experience in long-term care settings.
  • Experience interacting with geriatric patients.
  • *Federal Employment Requirements (if applicable):**
  • Applicants for the GS-10 level must have served at the GS-09 level for 52 weeks.
  • Current Federal employees on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
  • All requirements must be met within 30 days of the announcement closing date.
