## Industrial Hygienist (Radiation Safety Specialist)

We are seeking a skilled Industrial Hygienist with a specialization in Radiation Safety to oversee and manage comprehensive safety programs. This role involves critical oversight of policies, conducting thorough inspections, and ensuring compliance to protect personnel from radiation and hazardous materials.

### Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and provide guidance on radiation safety policies and programs.
  • Conduct periodic inspections to identify and assess radiation safety hazards.
  • Guide the development and implementation of radiation safety audits and inspections.
  • Manage and resolve potential hazardous material issues (enhanced responsibility for GS-13).
  • Perform dosimetry, manage radioactive waste, and conduct laboratory/workplace surveys.
  • Maintain meticulous inventory and recordkeeping for radioactive materials.
  • Implement contamination control measures.
  • Develop and deliver specific training related to the use of radioactive materials.
  • Manage contracts pertinent to radiation safety.
  • Ensure compliance with byproduct materials licenses.
  • Protect against unwarranted exposures to ionizing radiation.
### Qualifications:

  • *Education:**
  • A bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health Sciences, Occupational and Environmental Health, Toxicology, Safety Sciences, or a related science.
  • **or** A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physical Science, or Life Science that includes:
* 12 semester hours in chemistry (including organic chemistry). * 18 additional semester hours in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene.
  • **or** Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
  • All degrees must be from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Engineering degrees must be from an ABET-accredited curriculum.
  • *Experience:**
  • **General Industrial Hygiene Experience:** Professional experience in recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace environmental conditions that can cause illness. This includes acquiring quantitative/qualitative data, measuring exposures (chemical, physical, biological), analyzing data, predicting health effects, and recommending appropriate controls (management, medical, engineering, education, personal protective equipment).
  • **Specialized Experience (GS-12 Equivalent):** One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, focused on reviewing radiation safety policies, conducting inspections, and developing radiation safety audits. This must include direct experience with dosimetry, radioactive waste management, surveys, inventory, recordkeeping, contamination control, training, contract management, and byproduct materials license compliance.
  • **Specialized Experience (GS-13 Equivalent):** One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 level, with similar radiation safety responsibilities as GS-12, **plus** demonstrated experience in resolving potential hazardous material issues.
