Summary
Radar/Communications Engineer for FAA surveillance modernization, providing expert consultation, design, and integration for mission-critical systems.
Leidos is seeking a highly skilled Radar/Communications Engineer to join the NISC team, supporting the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) surveillance and radar modernization. This role requires extensive knowledge of radar and/or communications engineering, with a strong focus on compliance with FAA and industry standards. Ideal candidates are problem-solvers who thrive in collaborative environments and work on mission-critical systems.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Provide engineering consultation for compliance with FAA and industry standards across the system lifecycle (contract, design, implementation).
- Support the development and revision of national engineering policies for radar modernization programs.
- Develop new simulation and graphical solutions for complex engineering problems using industry-standard tools.
- Facilitate coordination for the integration of National Airspace System (NAS) communications (cooperative/non-cooperative radar and radar/automation).
- Manage National Change Proposals, Configuration Control Board processes, and departmental websites.
- Design, analyze, and review electrical circuits, components, and subsystems for radar and surveillance systems.
- Develop requirements to support modernization efforts.
- Perform system and component level troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root cause investigations.
- Support integration, test, and validation activities.
- Prepare and review technical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and design reports.
- Participate in design reviews, configuration management, and risk assessments.
- Support installations at field sites as needed.
- *Basic Qualifications:**
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar field with 8-12 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree with 6-10 years of relevant experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, evidenced by technical papers or publications.
- Experience with CAD tools.
- Deep understanding and direct work experience in radar systems, RF, and microwave technology.
- Familiarity with analog and digital circuits.
- Knowledge of RADAR signal processing and engineering tools.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary engineering teams (power, civil, mechanical, software).
- Ability to present ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with industry standards related to radar, RF, microwave, and general electrical engineering safety (e.g., IEC, IEEE, UL, NFPA, NEC).
- *Preferred Qualifications:**
- Experience working with the FAA.
- Practical knowledge of FAA/DoD systems, technical policies, standards, and orders.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strategic thinker capable of developing work breakdown structures for abstract or complex problems.
- Strong initiative and follow-through to accomplish tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Highly organized.
