Summary

Lead public outreach, content, and marketing initiatives for community development at the Prince George’s County Planning Department.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to lead public outreach, editorial content, and marketing initiatives that support our mission of smart growth and community development.

  • *About the Department:**
The Prince George’s County Planning Department provides land use planning for the physical development of Prince George’s County, Maryland. As the second most populous county in Maryland, it serves approximately 900,000 residents.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • **Editorial & Publications:** Lead editorial review and production of departmental publications, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and style. Write and edit content for publications, websites, and digital media, providing final approval for printed materials.
  • **Outreach & Community Engagement:** Develop strategic public outreach campaigns, including community meetings and stakeholder engagement. Interact with residents, conduct market research, coordinate marketing campaigns, and assist in developing communication plans. Analyze campaign data and prepare data-driven reports.
  • **Events, Social Media & Digital Strategy:** Enhance the Planning Department’s social media presence, ensuring timely and engaging content across platforms. Create and manage compelling digital content, including for the Department’s website. Develop and implement social media strategies. Coordinate and produce virtual meetings (e.g., Teams, Facebook Live).
  • **Accessibility & Compliance:** Implement equitable engagement strategies to reach diverse audiences. Develop communication plans ensuring accessibility (e.g., closed captions, translations, plain language) and compliance with ADA and other regulatory requirements.
  • **Media Relations & Branding:** Collaborate internally to align messaging and branding. Draft news releases, arrange interviews, and maintain effective relationships with local and regional news media. Address public inquiries and complaints professionally.

  • *Minimum Qualifications:**

  • Two (2) years of experience in journalism, marketing, or public affairs.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience totaling six (6) years may be substituted.
  • May require a valid, unencumbered driver's license for Commission vehicles and driving duties.
  • *Preferred Skills:**
  • Bilingual fluency and translation experience (Spanish preferred).
  • Experience with community engagement and public sector communications.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive outreach practices.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, SEO tools, Canva, or similar, and virtual meeting platforms. Strong graphic design and multimedia content creation skills.
  • Familiarity with local government operations or public sector communication.
