Job Description

Summary

Join the VA as a Physician, requiring a U.S. medical degree, unrestricted license, and accredited residency for veteran care.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking qualified Physicians to provide essential medical care. This role requires a commitment to patient well-being and adherence to established medical standards.

  • *Key Requirements:**
  • **Citizenship:** U.S. Citizenship is required. Non-citizens may be considered only if qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA policy.
  • **Education:** Must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (do) degree from a medical school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • **Licensure:** Possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • **Residency Training:** Completion of an accredited residency training program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. This includes programs approved by the ACGME, AOA, or equivalent non-U.S. residency training followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States (as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee).
* *Note for Physician Resident Providers (PRPs):* Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs, with a full medical license (not a training license), may be appointed intermittently for restricted duties under supervision.
  • **Language Proficiency:** Demonstrated proficiency in both spoken and written English.
  • *Physical Requirements:**

Applicants must meet specific physical standards for this position, including:

  • Heavy lifting (45 lbs and over), reaching above shoulder, and use of fingers.
  • Ability to walk (3 hours/day), stand (6 hours/day), and kneel (2 hours/day).
  • Requires both legs, rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
  • Near vision correctable to 13"-16"; far vision correctable to 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other.
  • Ability to distinguish basic colors and functional hearing (aid permitted).
