Job Description

Summary

Seeking a Physical Scientist/Engineer to analyze weather data, troubleshoot Linux systems, and collaborate with forecasters.

This position requires a skilled professional to analyze complex observational data and numerical weather modeling systems. You will be responsible for testing, implementing, and troubleshooting applications and software within a Linux environment. A key aspect of this role involves effective communication and collaboration with forecasters and other scientists to facilitate data transfer, present critical findings, and offer informed recommendations.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Analyze and evaluate observational data and numerical weather modeling systems and programs.
  • Test, implement, and troubleshoot applications and software in a Linux environment.
  • Communicate and collaborate with forecasters and other scientists to transfer data, present findings, and provide recommendations.
  • *Required Qualifications:**
  • **Education:**
* A Bachelor's degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics, which must include at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering sciences (e.g., mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, electronics). * or a combination of education equivalent to the above major (24 semester hours in physical science/engineering science) plus appropriate experience or additional education.
  • **Specialized Experience:**
* One year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-12 level in the Federal service (or comparable responsibility outside federal service). * This experience MUST include: * Analyzing and evaluating observational data and numerical weather modeling systems and programs. * Testing, implementing, or troubleshooting applications or software in a Linux environment. * Communicating and collaborating with forecasters or other scientists to transfer data, present findings, or provide recommendations.
  • **Note:** Both paid and unpaid/volunteer experience that builds relevant competencies will be considered.
