Job Description
Summary
Clinical Pharmacy Specialist needed to independently manage complex medication therapies and provide direct patient care for VA patients.
Join the VA as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist (CPS) at the GS-13 level, independently providing high-level clinical care and medication therapy management.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Function as a mid-level provider, initiating, modifying, or discontinuing medication therapy.
- Serve as a consultant for intensive medication therapy management services.
- Design, implement, assess, monitor, and document therapeutic plans for optimal patient outcomes.
- Engage directly and indirectly with patients, providers, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Perform physical assessments and order relevant laboratory/diagnostic tests.
- Contribute to budgetary execution within your defined role.
- *Requirements:**
- **Citizenship:** United States Citizenship (non-citizens may be considered per VA policy).
- **Education:** Graduate of an ACPE-accredited College/School of Pharmacy with a BS or Pharm.D. degree. Foreign pharmacy graduates must have FPGEC Certification (including FPGEE and TOEFL iBT).
- **Licensure:** Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. Must maintain current registration if required for licensure.
- **Experience (GS-13):** Minimum 1 year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 level, performing higher-level duties with significant scope, administrative independence, and complexity at least 25% of the time.
- *Required Skills & Abilities:**
- Strong oral and written communication to persuade and influence clinical/management decisions.
- Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for program area.
- Ability to solve problems, coordinate, and organize responsibilities effectively.
- Expert knowledge in a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice.
- Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing drug therapy outcomes, including physical assessment and interpreting lab/diagnostic parameters.
- *Preferred Experience:**
- Advanced knowledge/skills in managing and educating VA patients receiving oncology and pain therapies.
- Completion of an oncology pharmacy practice residency or Oncology Board Certification (BCOP).
- 3 years of VA oncology practice experience with an established scope of practice.
