Manage and adjudicate federal security clearances, providing expert guidance on complex personnel security and counter-intelligence matters.
The Office of Personnel Management is seeking a highly skilled Security Adjudications Specialist to manage and process complex federal security clearances. This role involves providing expert guidance, reviewing sensitive cases, and making critical adjudicative determinations.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Provide expert advice and guidance on a wide range of security, counter-intelligence, and adjudication issues.
- Conduct in-depth reviews of security cases, especially those with significant derogatory information.
- Prepare and process Letters of Intent to Deny or Revoke security clearances and assignments.
- Analyze responses to Letters of Intent and render informed adjudicative determinations.
- Draft and issue official Letters of Denial or Revocation of Security Clearance.
- Evaluate security reports, conduct research, and prepare detailed responses.
- Manage the full lifecycle of personnel security, including initial investigations, clearances, re-investigations, upgrades/downgrades, suspensions, revocations, and appeals processes.
- Ensure all security clearance requests and actions comply with regulatory requirements.
- Analyze and report on clearance and appeals findings to senior security officials.
- *Qualifications & Competencies:**
- Minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level equivalent to GG/GS 12 in the Federal service, demonstrating a strong understanding of security administration.
- Proven ability to provide advice, guidance, and direction on security, counter-intelligence, and adjudication matters.
- Demonstrated experience in reviewing complex cases, preparing official letters, and making adjudicative determinations.
- **Personnel Security:** Expertise in applying personnel security principles to process investigations, clearances, and appeals.
- **Flexibility:** Adaptability to new information, changing conditions, and unexpected obstacles.
- **Interpersonal Skills:** Ability to treat others with courtesy, sensitivity, and respect, responding appropriately to diverse needs.
- **Reasoning:** Strong analytical skills to identify relationships, analyze information, and draw accurate conclusions.
