Job Description

Summary

Adjudicate and review complex personnel security investigations and eligibility determinations for federal suitability and national security clearances.

We are seeking dedicated Personnel Security Specialists to join our team, responsible for adjudicating complex background investigations and ensuring personnel suitability and national security eligibility across various grade levels (GS-09, GS-11, GS-12). This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to maintaining security standards.

  • *Key Responsibilities May Include:**
  • **GS-09:**
* Initiate appropriate background investigations using personnel security systems. * Interpret and apply personnel security program policies and procedures within the agency.
  • **GS-11:**
* Analyze, evaluate, and adjudicate complicated reports of investigation and investigative information for suitability, fitness, public trust, or national security eligibility. * Render final adjudicative determinations.
  • **GS-12:**
* Independently analyze, evaluate, and adjudicate complex reports of investigation for suitability, fitness, and national security eligibility. * Determine and render final adjudicative determinations. * Provide second-level review for junior specialists. * Implement and develop procedural changes necessitated by changes in personnel security directives.

  • *Qualifications:**
Applicants must meet specific experience and/or education requirements by the closing date for the desired GS level. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are often accepted.

  • **GS-09 Requirements:**
* **Experience:** One year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07, which included initiating background investigations using security systems and interpreting personnel security program policies. or * **Education:** A Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree, or an LL.B./J.D. (if related).

  • **GS-11 Requirements:**
* **Experience:** One year of specialized experience comparable to GS-09, which included analyzing, evaluating, and adjudicating complex investigation reports and rendering final adjudicative determinations for various eligibility types. or * **Education:** A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D., or an LL.M. (if related).

  • **GS-12 Requirements:**
* **Experience:** One year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11, which included independently analyzing, evaluating, and adjudicating complex investigation reports, determining final adjudicative determinations, providing second-level review, and implementing/developing procedural changes in security directives.

  • *Additional Requirements:**
  • **Time-in-Grade:** Current federal employees applying for promotion must have 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level.
  • **Qualifying Experience:** This includes both paid and unpaid experience, such as volunteer work, that provides relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities.
