Summary
Protect national park resources and visitors as a Law Enforcement Park Ranger, requiring a Type I commission and prior LE experience.
## Park Ranger (Law Enforcement)
We are seeking a dedicated Law Enforcement Officer to protect and conserve natural and cultural resources, ensure visitor safety, and enforce laws within park areas. This role requires significant law enforcement experience and specialized training.
### Key Responsibilities
- Perform law enforcement duties to protect, conserve, and manage natural and cultural resources.
- Ensure visitor safety through active patrolling and incident response.
- Investigate incidents, apprehend, detain, and facilitate prosecution of individuals violating laws.
- Apply federal laws, regulations, and policies within areas of jurisdiction.
- Respond effectively to accidents, emergencies, and natural disasters.
- Conduct patrols to prevent and mitigate criminal activity and violations.
- **Experience:** One year of specialized law enforcement experience equivalent to the GS-09 level, focused on resource protection, visitor safety, investigations, and emergency response in park-like settings.
- **Education:** Three full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education, or a Ph.D./equivalent doctoral degree in a related field.
- A combination of both qualifying education and experience.
- **Law Enforcement Commission:** Must currently possess, or have held within the past three years, a full Type I Law Enforcement Commission (e.g., LMPT, NRPT, USPPI, UPTP, BIA-BPOTP, CITP training), or be qualified to receive one upon appointment.
- **Prior Law Enforcement Experience:** Substantial prior service in a primary law enforcement officer position (federal or equivalent non-federal) is mandatory.
- **Firearm Proficiency:** Required to carry a firearm and maintain proficiency; subject to federal firearm eligibility standards.
- **Travel:** Up to 3 nights per month, requiring a government charge card.
- **Uniform:** Required to wear a uniform compliant with National Park Service standards (allowance provided).
- **Financial Disclosure:** Required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) within 30 days of appointment.
- **Probationary Period:** New federal employees or supervisors will complete a one-year probationary period.
