Join the Senate team as a dedicated Court Reporter, playing a crucial role in accurately transcribing legislative proceedings and upholding parliamentary procedure. This position demands exceptional precision, discretion, and adaptability within a dynamic government environment.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Accurately report and transcribe Senate proceedings using stenographic equipment.
  • Ensure all recorded material adheres to parliamentary procedure, Senate rules, and protocol.
  • Proficiently operate and maintain stenographic and transcription equipment.
  • Quickly identify Senators by sight and voice, retaining and recalling information effectively.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Be prepared for potential travel outside Washington, D.C., for emergency Senate relocation.
  • *Minimum Qualifications:**
  • **Education & Experience:** High school diploma with a minimum of seven years of professional field experience.
  • **Certifications:**
* **Required:** State court reporter certification or National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) certification. * **Preferred:** Registered Merit Reporter (RMR), Registered Diplomate Reporter (RDR), or Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR).
  • **Skills & Knowledge:**
* Expertise in English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and vocabulary. * Strong knowledge of parliamentary procedure. * Proficiency in, or ability to quickly learn, CaseCatalyst software. * Basic understanding of the Senate's procedures, organization, and the legislative process (preferred). * Knowledge of American history and current events. * Ability to listen and write with precision and continuity while standing or walking with equipment. * Physical capacity to carry items up to 25 pounds (with shoulder harness/tray) and tolerate prolonged standing and walking.

  • *Work Environment & Expectations:**
  • Work is performed in an office environment and on the Senate floor.
  • Requires regular, predictable, and punctual attendance, with physical presence in the office.
  • This role is directly tied to the Senate Floor schedule, necessitating flexibility for extended and unscheduled hours.
