Summary

Develop and transition advanced meteorological forecast tools and applications into operational environments.

Join our team as a Meteorologist, contributing to the advancement and operational implementation of critical weather forecasting technologies. We are seeking a skilled professional to develop and transition state-of-the-art meteorological tools.

  • *Key Responsibilities (GS-13 Level):**
  • Assist in the development or modification of meteorological applications, programs, and software.
  • Support the seamless transition of new meteorological forecast tools and methods into operational environments.
  • *Required Qualifications:**
  • *Education:**
  • **Degree:** A degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related natural science major that included:
* At least 24 semester (36 quarter) hours in meteorology/atmospheric science, comprising a minimum of: * 6 semester hours of atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics. * 6 semester hours of analysis and prediction of weather systems (synoptic/mesoscale). * 3 semester hours of physical meteorology. * 2 semester hours of remote sensing of the atmosphere and/or instrumentation. * 6 semester hours of physics, with at least one course including laboratory sessions. * 3 semester hours of ordinary differential equations. * At least 9 semester hours in a combination of three or more of the following: physical hydrology, statistics, chemistry, physical oceanography, physical climatology, radiative transfer, aeronomy, advanced thermodynamics, advanced electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and computer science. * *Note: Calculus is a prerequisite or corequisite for coursework in atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, physics, and differential equations.
  • **or** a combination of equivalent education and appropriate experience.
  • *Specialized Experience:**
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-12 level in the Federal service (or comparable non-federal experience).
  • This specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
* Assisting with the development or modification of meteorological applications, programs, or software. * Supporting the transition of new meteorological forecast tools and methods into an operational environment.
