Summary

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist sought to provide evidence-based therapy to Veterans and their families within the VA system.

Join the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) dedicated to providing crucial mental health services to Veterans and their families. This role focuses on evidence-based family systems therapy, with opportunities for both full performance and advanced levels.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Provide evidence-based family systems therapy, counseling, and psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families, and groups.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop comprehensive treatment plans, including crisis intervention and safety planning.
  • Collaborate with inter-professional teams to ensure integrated care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • *Advanced MFT (GS-12 Level) May Also:**
  • Serve as a sole licensed mental health provider in satellite clinics.
  • Provide specialized consultation for complex cases.
  • Oversee MFT training programs and offer systemic clinical supervision to staff/trainees.
  • Develop and conduct behavioral health training for clinical staff.
  • *Basic Requirements:**
  • **Citizenship:** United States Citizenship.
  • **Education:** Master's or Doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (COAMFTE or regionally accredited program) or a comparable mental health degree (e.g., Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, Social Work, Psychology) meeting VA qualification standards.
  • **Licensure:** Full, current, and unrestricted MFT license to independently practice in a State.
  • **English Language Proficiency:** Required.
  • *Experience & Qualifications by Grade Level:**
  • **GS-11 (Full Performance Level):**
* Minimum one year of post-master's MFT clinical experience (a doctoral degree in MFT or a comparable mental health field may substitute for experience). * Demonstrated ability to assess psychosocial functioning, provide counseling, maintain effective relationships, understand ethical/legal standards, and utilize computer applications for documentation. * Ability to provide orientation/consultation to new MFTs or supervise pre-licensure MFTs.

  • **GS-12 (Advanced Level):**
* Successfully completed evidence-based training in family therapy (COAMFTE accredited program or passed AMFTRE). * At least five years of post-licensed clinical experience in family systems therapy, including one year at the GS-11 equivalent level, demonstrating progressive competency and use of evidence-based models. * **For supervision assignments:** AAMFT Approved Supervisor credential required. * Demonstrated expertise in specialized consultation, crisis intervention, and systemic clinical supervision.

  • *Preferred Qualifications:**
  • Familiarity with Substance Abuse Recovery Programs and working with Veterans diagnosed with mental illness and SUD.
  • Skill in evidence-based practices.
  • Two years of specialized experience in mental health and substance abuse treatment.
  • Post-licensure certification (e.g., ASWB advanced generalist or clinical).
  • *Physical Requirements:**
  • Requires light to moderate lifting, carrying, reaching, fine motor skills, walking, standing, kneeling, good vision, hearing, and emotional/mental stability.
