Job Description

Summary

Experienced Meteorologist sought for advanced weather analysis, forecasting, and providing critical briefings on hazardous hydrometeorological events.

We are seeking a skilled Meteorologist/Atmospheric Scientist to analyze complex weather phenomena, develop critical forecasts, and communicate vital information to decision-makers.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Analyze and assess current and forecast weather conditions at both synoptic and mesoscale levels.
  • Devise, formulate, and disseminate hydrometeorological forecasts, watches, warnings, and advisories.
  • Provide briefings to government officials or other decision-makers regarding hazardous weather or water events.
  • *Basic Requirements:**
  • *Education:**
  • **Degree:** A bachelor's degree or higher in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related natural science major that includes:
* At least 24 semester (36 quarter) hours in meteorology/atmospheric science, comprising: * 6 semester hours of atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics. * 6 semester hours of analysis and prediction of weather systems (synoptic/mesoscale). * 3 semester hours of physical meteorology. * 2 semester hours of remote sensing of the atmosphere and/or instrumentation. * 6 semester hours of physics (at least one course with a laboratory session). * 3 semester hours of ordinary differential equations. * At least 9 semester hours in any combination of three or more of the following: physical hydrology, statistics, chemistry, physical oceanography, physical climatology, radiative transfer, aeronomy, advanced thermodynamics, advanced electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and computer science. * *Note: Calculus is a prerequisite or corequisite for coursework in atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, physics, and differential equations.*
  • **or**
  • **Combination of Education and Experience:** Coursework as described above, supplemented by appropriate experience or additional relevant education.
  • *Specialized Experience (Beyond Basic Education):**
  • One year of professional experience demonstrating the competencies, knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of a meteorologist. This experience may include paid, unpaid, or volunteer work.
  • *Advanced Level Specialized Experience (e.g., GS-13 equivalent):**

In addition to the basic requirements, applicants for advanced positions must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to a high-level professional role, which MUST include all of the following:

  • Providing briefings to government or other decision-makers on hazardous weather or water events.
  • Analyzing and assessing the current and forecast weather situation at both the synoptic and mesoscale levels.
  • Devising, formulating, and disseminating hydrometeorological forecasts, watches, warnings, and advisories.
