Job Description
Summary
Seeking experienced Law Enforcement Instructors with federal/sworn LEO background to train in specialized law enforcement disciplines.
The Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) is seeking highly qualified Law Enforcement Instructors to deliver specialized training across various critical disciplines.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Deliver high-quality, specialized law enforcement training curricula.
- Perform duties directly related to your assigned law enforcement topical area(s).
- *Qualifications (GS-13 Equivalent):**
- *1. Selective Placement Factor (Must meet ONE of the following):**
- **A.** Possess experience as a sworn law enforcement officer or agent with full arrest authority in the prevention, detection, apprehension, detention, and/or investigation of felony and/or misdemeanor violations of federal, state, local, tribal, or military criminal laws.
- **or B.** Have held a federal civilian position in the 1801 occupational series.

Specialized Experience:**
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, performing law enforcement duties *or* instructing law enforcement training in the relevant topical areas. Education cannot be substituted for specialized experience at this grade level.
- *3. Topical Areas for Instruction:**
- Firearms, Driver Training, Marine Training, Maritime, Active Shooter, Behavioral Science, General Investigative Skills, Counterterrorism, Physical Techniques, Tactical Medicine, Financial Fraud, Forensics & Special Investigations, Digital Photography/Video, Electronic Surveillance, Cyber/Digital Forensics, Enforcement Operations, Law Enforcement Leadership, Online Campus, and General Training.
- *Additional Requirements:**
- **Federal Employees:** Current or former federal GS employees must meet time-in-grade requirements (52 weeks at the GS-12 equivalent) and submit required SF-50 forms to verify eligibility.
- **Experience:** All qualifying experience, including paid and unpaid (volunteer) work, will be credited.
- **Political Appointees:** Disclosure is required for current or former political appointees within the last 5 years.
- *Specific Instructor Requirements:**
- **Physical Techniques Instructors:** Requires a physical examination and passing a Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB) test (minimum 40th percentile in all five events). This involves significant physical exertion, including repetitive running, calisthenics, strength training, and active participation in physical fitness activities.
- **Firearms Instructors:** Requires passing a standard 60-round Firearms Proficiency test with a minimum score of 85% (255 out of 300 points).
- *Benefits & Special Programs:**
- **LEO Retirement:** Secondary Administrative Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) Retirement Coverage may be offered for most positions.
- **Reemployed Annuitants:** Eligible retired federal employees with law enforcement/investigative experience may qualify for a dual-compensation waiver for time-limited positions, allowing full salary earning with no offset to FERS annuity (FERS annuity supplement may still be reduced).
