Summary

Develop as an Industrial Hygienist, assessing workplace hazards, conducting surveys, and recommending controls, with promotion potential to GS-12.

Join our team as an Industrial Hygienist with promotion potential up to the GS-12 level. This role offers a developmental path, allowing you to gain experience under supervision while working towards full performance. As an Industrial Hygienist, you will contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Conduct comprehensive industrial hygiene surveys and assessments for chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
  • Identify and evaluate potential health hazards in various work environments.
  • Plan and execute evaluations of operations involving hazardous conditions.
  • Develop technical reports detailing findings and recommending control measures and corrective actions.
  • Provide expert solutions for safety, health, and environmental control challenges.
  • Research technical publications and assist in preparing for and conducting baseline/annual industrial hygiene surveys.
  • *Qualifications:**
  • *Basic Eligibility (Choose ONE of the following):**
  • **Degree:** Bachelor's or graduate degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health Sciences, Occupational and Environmental Health, Toxicology, Safety Sciences, or a closely related science. Degree must be completed by May 2018.
  • **Related Degree:** Bachelor's degree in a branch of Engineering, Physical Science, or Life Science, including 12 semester hours in chemistry (organic chemistry included) and 18 additional semester hours in chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. Degree must be completed by May 2018. Engineering degrees must be from an ABET-accredited curriculum.
  • **Certification:** Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
  • *Minimum Requirements by Grade Level (Experience or Education):**
  • **GS-09 Level:**
* One year of specialized experience providing support in industrial hygiene research, assisting with hazard identification and evaluation, and assisting with industrial hygiene surveys; **or** * A Master's or equivalent graduate degree (or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education) in a relevant field (e.g., industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, safety sciences).

  • **GS-11 Level:**
* One year of specialized experience planning and conducting evaluations of hazardous environmental conditions, preparing technical reports, and recommending controls; **or** * A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education) in a relevant field (e.g., industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, safety sciences).

  • **GS-12 Level (Full Performance):**
* One year of specialized experience conducting complex industrial hygiene surveys and assessments, preparing comprehensive reports with hazard mitigation recommendations, and resolving safety, health, and environmental control problems.

  • *General Requirements:**
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Transcripts are required if qualifying based on education.
