## Healthcare Engineer (GS-12)
Join our team as a Healthcare Engineer, operating at a full performance level with significant autonomy. You will lead critical healthcare engineering programs, manage technology assessments, and oversee the integration of both current and emerging technologies to ensure safe and efficient healthcare delivery for Veterans.
### Responsibilities:
- Lead complex healthcare engineering programs, technology assessments, and integration planning.
- Serve as an institutional resource for healthcare delivery processes and systems, collaborating extensively with clinical stakeholders, acquisition staff, contractors, and executive leadership.
- Contribute to the education of clinical staff, planners, and leadership to ensure safe and efficient healthcare delivery.
- Plan, execute, and document highly complex, multi-faceted healthcare facility construction projects and inspections.
- Prioritize resources effectively against approved scopes of work, contract documents, and budgets.
- Identify problems and develop innovative solutions within applicable rules, regulations, and procedures for the healthcare environment.
- *Experience:**
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, demonstrating skills in applying engineering/architectural principles in healthcare, basic project management, and adherence to healthcare-related standards/codes.
- *Education & Licensure:**
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Architecture from an ABET (Engineering Accreditation Commission) or NCARB accredited program. Examples include Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical, Civil Engineering, and Architecture/Architectural Engineering.
- Evidence of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (e.g., Engineering in Training certificate from any U.S. state/territory or NCEES test results).
- Current professional registration or licensure as a Professional Engineer or Architect in any U.S. state/territory.
- *Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (GS-12):**
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, and other engineering/architectural principles and practices within a healthcare environment.
- Strong understanding of healthcare industry standards and regulations (e.g., The Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA).
- Knowledge of construction standards, methods, practices, materials, and equipment to ensure compliance.
- Skill in researching, analyzing information, and making sound engineering/business recommendations to proactively solve problems.
- Ability to plan and execute complex, multi-faceted projects and inspections.
- Ability to organize and lead multi-disciplinary task forces.
- *Basic Requirements:**
- United States Citizenship.
- Primarily sedentary, with occasional physical effort required (e.g., walking, standing, climbing ladders, stooping, carrying light items).
- Work environment includes typical office settings but also requires outdoor work in various weather conditions and potential exposure to moderate risks in storage or hazardous waste sites.
