Job Description
Summary
Investigate and inspect CBRN/HAZMAT issues, requiring specialized experience, advanced education, and extreme physical readiness for emergency response.
Join our team in a critical role conducting investigations and inspections related to CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear) and HAZMAT (Hazardous Materials) issues. This position requires specialized experience, advanced education, and a high level of physical readiness for emergency response situations.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Conduct thorough investigations and inspections.
- Provide recommendations and resolve discrepancies.
- Coordinate activities effectively with other federal agencies.
- Apply expert knowledge of CBRN and HAZMAT issues, including their effects.
- Operate specialized equipment such as handheld detectors, gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy, and Polymerase Chain Reaction technologies.
- *Qualifications:**
- **Experience:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level (federal or private sector) demonstrating proficiency in investigations, CBRN/HAZMAT knowledge, and equipment operation.
- **Education:** A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or an LL.M.; or a combination of education and experience.
- *Additional Requirements:**
- **Emergency Employee Designation:** This role is designated for emergency employees, requiring you to report for or remain at work during adverse weather, natural disasters, or other emergency situations.
- **Demanding Physical Readiness:** You must be in a constant state of physical readiness, capable of demonstrating maximum physical exertion without warning. This includes prolonged periods of standing, walking, lifting/moving objects over 50 pounds, running, climbing, and performing duties in restricted, dark, hot/cold spaces, potentially defending oneself or others against exposure to various hazards.
- **Medical Standards:** Requires good near/distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, emotional/mental stability, and the ability to hear conversational voice.
- *Important Note:** All qualifications and education requirements must be met by the closing date and clearly documented in your resume. Volunteer experience counts toward qualifying experience.
