Job Description
Summary
Seeking a highly physically capable and experienced HAZMAT specialist for CBRNE/WMD emergency response, investigations, and decontamination operations.
Serve as a Mission Essential Employee, responding to critical emergencies, adverse weather, and other disruptive situations requiring immediate action. This demanding role requires unwavering physical readiness and specialized expertise in CBRNE/WMD/HAZMAT incidents.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Conduct investigations and inspections for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT).
- Apply advanced techniques for detection, identification, sampling, and evidence collection.
- Perform decontamination operations, technical analysis, and life-saving activities.
- Collaborate with Federal, state, and local emergency services using National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) protocols.
- *Physical & Medical Requirements:**
- Maintain constant physical readiness; capable of maximum exertion without warning.
- Pass annual medical and physical fitness examinations.
- Participate in bio-threat pathogen vaccination programs (unless excused).
- Proficiently wear personal protective equipment, including Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and full Occupational Safety and Health Administration Level A suits.
- Endure regular physical exertion: long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, stooping, carrying/moving objects over 50 lbs, running, climbing, crouching, crawling, and kneeling in varied conditions.
- Operate in all weather conditions, unpredictable terrain, and restricted, dark, hot, or cold spaces.
- Possess good near/distant vision, color distinction, conversational hearing, and emotional/mental stability.
- *Qualifications (GS-12 Equivalent Experience):**
One year of specialized experience (equivalent to GS-11) demonstrating:
- Expert knowledge of CBRNE/WMD/HAZMAT laws, regulations, principles, and practices for detection, identification, sampling, investigations, and inspections.
- Proficiency in methodologies and technologies for decontamination, technical analysis, life-saving, evidence collection, and documentation.
- Strong understanding and application of NIMS and ICS for inter-agency coordination.
