Summary
Process Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act (PA) requests, ensuring compliance and accurate information disclosure.
Join our team as a Government Information Specialist, specializing in Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act (PA) requests. This critical role involves processing and analyzing sensitive government information to ensure compliance with federal regulations and timely responses.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- *GS-12 Level:**
- Review documents to identify and redact sensitive information based on FOIA/PA exemptions.
- Manage incoming FOIA/PA requests from initial search through to final response.
- Draft clear, concise written responses for requesters and prepare status reports for senior leadership.
- Maintain accurate FOIA/PA databases and formal administrative records.
- Utilize automated tools and software to organize documentation, information, and evidence effectively.
- *GS-13 Level (builds upon GS-12 responsibilities):**
- Communicate and negotiate directly with requesters regarding FOIA/PA requests.
- Conduct comprehensive record searches in response to FOIA requests.
- Perform research to determine the appropriate FOIA/PA information for release.
- Consult with other government entities as needed concerning responsiveness and releasability determinations.
- Independently handle all assigned tasks and potentially review the work of others.
- Efficiently manage new FOIA requests by leveraging prior responses and technology-related discovery efforts.
- *Required Qualifications:**
- **For GS-12:** One year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level (or equivalent pay band in the Federal service), demonstrating proficiency in at least three of the five GS-12 responsibilities listed above.
- **For GS-13:** One year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level (or equivalent pay band in the Federal service), demonstrating proficiency in at least five of the six GS-13 responsibilities listed above.
- Candidates must meet federal time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
