## General Attorney (Tax) - Senior Technician Reviewer (Energy Branch)

We are seeking a highly experienced Tax Attorney to join our Energy Branch as a Senior Technician Reviewer. This role involves providing expert legal guidance and analysis on complex tax matters related to the energy industry.

### Key Responsibilities & Focus Areas:

  • Analyze and interpret Internal Revenue tax laws, regulations, and decisions concerning energy production.
  • Provide legal guidance on energy-related production and investment tax credits.
  • Address other tax issues ancillary to energy production, such as normalization.
  • Work with the research credit under Section 41.
  • Engage with the energy industry, potentially including federal government agencies.
  • Handle or advise on tax litigation matters.
### Required Qualifications:

  • *Education:**
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA).
  • *Bar Membership:**
  • Active member in good standing of the bar of a U.S. State, Commonwealth, Territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • *Experience:**
  • Minimum of 1 year of general professional legal experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional legal experience specifically in tax law, focusing on areas such as:
* Tax matters in energy production (extraction/harvesting natural resources). * Energy-related production and investment tax credits. * Ancillary energy production tax issues (e.g., normalization). * Research credit under Section 41. * Experience with the energy industry, including federal government agency experience. * Tax litigation.
  • At least one year of the required experience must be at a senior professional level (equivalent to federal GS-14).
  • *Note:* All professional legal experience must be gained after bar admission.
  • *Substitution:**
  • An LL.M. degree in Tax or a closely related field may substitute for one year of the general professional legal experience requirement.
