Develop user interfaces for Georgetown's Massive Data Institute, applying strong UX principles to public policy research projects.
Georgetown University's Massive Data Institute (MDI) is seeking a **Front End Developer** to design and build user-facing web applications that support cutting-edge social science, computer science, and data science research to improve public policy decision-making.
As a core member of a nimble, data-centric software development team, you will be responsible for applying creativity, strong design principles, and UX practices to create simple, clean, and performant user interfaces, from initial wireframing through to deployment.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Create wireframes and iteratively refine user interface designs based on feedback.
- Translate approved designs into functional code, contributing to projects hosted on GitHub.
- Collaborate with fellow developers to ensure seamless integration of front-end components.
- Enhance usability, accessibility, and overall design by revamping existing user interfaces.
- Design and develop effective data visualizations.
- Document all design decisions and processes.
- *Required Qualifications:**
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BSc) in a relevant field.
- 1-3 years of professional experience in front-end development.
- Proficiency with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Demonstrated awareness of User Experience (UX) principles and practices.
- Ability to design intuitive User Interfaces (UI).
- Experience utilizing front-end frameworks such as Bootstrap for clean layouts.
- Practical experience with one or more modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, Angular).
- Ability to effectively manage and contribute to multiple different projects simultaneously.
- Skilled in, or possessing a strong interest in learning, data visualization tools and techniques.
- *Preferred Qualifications:**
- Experience designing and developing user interfaces specifically for data querying and/or search applications.
- Familiarity with Git and standard GitHub workflows.
- Experience with, or strong interest in, data-centric software design.
- Knowledge of WCAG and web accessibility standards.
- Previous exposure to CI/CD practices and related tools.
- Prior exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure).
- Experience working in an Agile project management environment and with tools like Jira software.

- *Salary Range:** $54,616.00 - $100,493.33
