Director, Data Engineering - Marketing Data Platform

Capital One's Marketing and Messaging team is seeking a Director of Data Engineering to lead the Marketing Data Platform. This pivotal role drives a cohesive data strategy to deliver personalized customer experiences through modernized, data-driven solutions.

• *Key Responsibilities:**
• Lead, manage, and grow multiple teams of product-focused software and data engineers.
• Define and execute a comprehensive data strategy across Marketing & Messaging.
• Oversee the development of highly performant and scalable data platforms.
• Drive data engineering best practices and foster innovation.
• Modernize existing tech stacks and incubate emerging technologies, including open-source.
• Collaborate with internal teams to identify opportunities for automation, machine learning, and predictive analytics.
• Partner with architects, product owners, and engineers to design, develop, and deploy full-stack solutions.
• Lead deployments into AWS environments and provide operational support.
• Ensure technical excellence through robust design and code reviews.
• Actively attract, recruit, and mentor top engineering talent.

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• 7+ years of experience in Data Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
• 5+ years of people management experience.
• 3+ years of experience with Big Data and Data Streaming.
• 3+ years of experience with cloud-based data platforms (Amazon Web Services).
• *Preferred Qualifications:**
• Master’s Degree.
• 12+ years of experience in Data Engineering.
• 10+ years of hands-on coding in languages like Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift, SQL.
• 10+ years of professional experience in the full lifecycle of system development.
• 7+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience with cloud-based data platforms (Amazon Web Services).
• 3+ years of experience with Data Lake Infrastructure, Data Warehousing, and Data Analytics tools.

• McLean, VA: $263,900 - $301,200
• New York, NY: $287,800 - $328,500
• Richmond, VA: $239,900 - $273,800
• Eligibility for incentive compensation and benefits varies.*
