About the Role:

Capital One is seeking a Director of Data Engineering to lead and manage our Marketing Data Platform teams. You will drive a cohesive data strategy across Marketing & Messaging, collaborating with enterprise partners to deliver highly performant and scalable data platforms. This role is crucial for modernizing our messaging ecosystem, leveraging enterprise data, and establishing data engineering best practices.

What You'll Do:

• Lead, mentor, and grow multiple product-focused software and data engineering teams.
• Drive data strategy and foster data engineering best practices.
• Modernize existing technology stacks and data platforms.
• Embrace and integrate emerging technologies and open-source solutions.
• Identify and implement opportunities for automation and machine learning.
• Partner with architects, product owners, and engineers to develop and implement new applications.
• Design, develop, test, implement, and support full-stack technical solutions.
• Manage deployments into AWS environments and provide operational support.
• Conduct thorough design and code reviews to ensure compliance with standards.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• 7+ years of experience in Data Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
• 5+ years of people management experience.
• 3+ years of experience with Big Data and Data Streaming technologies.
• 3+ years of experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Amazon Web Services).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree.
• 12+ years of experience in Data Engineering.
• 10+ years of hands-on coding experience (e.g., Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift, SQL).
• 10+ years of full lifecycle system development experience (conception to production support).
• 7+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience with cloud-based data platforms (Amazon Web Services).
• 3+ years of experience with Data Lake Infrastructure, Data Warehousing, and Data Analytics tools.
