Summary

Seeking a Clinical Dietitian to provide comprehensive, patient-centered nutrition care and improve outcomes for Veterans.

Join our team as a Clinical Dietitian, providing expert nutrition care to Veterans. This role involves comprehensive nutrition assessment, intervention, and education, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered outcomes across various acuity levels.

  • *About the Role:**
Clinical Dietitians apply evidence-based nutrition practices, interpret research, and integrate whole health principles to develop individualized patient goals. You will maintain accurate clinical records, utilize approved systems for patient encounters, and leverage virtual care technology to enhance accessibility. Compliance with TJC and other accrediting standards is essential for safe, quality patient care. Collaboration with Food Operations is key to optimizing Veterans' dining experience and satisfaction.

  • *Key Responsibilities by Grade Level:**
  • **GS-7 Clinical Dietitian (Entry-Level):** Works under guidance, focusing on patients with lower acuity. Develops skills in nutrition assessment (NCP) and evidence-based practice while learning record-keeping and compliance.
  • **GS-9 Clinical Dietitian (Developmental):** Performs increasingly complex tasks under general supervision. Conducts nutrition assessments, applies evidence-based guidelines, interprets research, and utilizes virtual care. Participates in performance improvement activities and serves as a liaison between clinical units and food service.
  • **GS-11 Clinical Dietitian (Full Performance):** Independently conducts comprehensive nutrition assessments for Veterans, assuring high-quality care. Applies advanced evidence-based practices, analyzes data for performance improvement, and leads new initiatives. Serves as a primary liaison between clinical units and food service leadership.
  • *Core Requirements:**
  • **Citizenship:** Must be a U.S. Citizen. Non-citizens may be considered if qualified citizens are unavailable.
  • **English Language Proficiency:** Proficient in spoken and written English.
  • **Physical Requirements:** As per VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
  • *Education & Credentialing:**
  • **Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN):** All applicants must hold the RDN credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • **Temporary Appointment for Non-Credentialed Dietitians (GS-07/GS-09 only):**
* May be appointed for up to one year if qualified citizens with RDN are not available. * Must possess a bachelor's or higher degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college/university (or foreign equivalent). * Completed an ACEND® accredited experiential/supervised practice program and provide a verification statement for CDR exam eligibility. * Must obtain RDN credential within one year of appointment, or employment may be terminated. * Provides care under the supervision of a RDN at the full performance level.

  • *Experience & Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) by Grade Level:**
  • **GS-7 Requirements:** None beyond basic RDN credential or eligibility for temporary appointment.
  • **GS-9 Requirements:**
* **Experience/Education:** At least one year of experience equivalent to GS-7, or a Master's degree from a regionally accredited university. * **KSAs:** Knowledge of accrediting/regulatory requirements, virtual technology for nutrition care; ability to deliver care using NCP, apply evidence-based practices, develop patient-centered goals, collect data for improvement, and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • **GS-11 Requirements:**
* **Experience:** At least one year of experience as an RDN equivalent to GS-9. * **KSAs:** Skill in delivering patient care using NCP, interpreting research for evidence-based practice, developing patient-centered goals, analyzing data for performance improvement, collaborating with stakeholders; ability to comply with various authorities.

  • *Preferred Experience:**
  • Two to three years of work experience as a Registered Dietitian (RD) in an acute care setting.
