The Department of Justice seeks Criminal Investigators (GS-11, GS-12, or GS-13) to conduct comprehensive investigations, gather evidence, and enforce federal laws.
About the Role:
This role involves planning and executing criminal investigations of varying complexity, from initial leads to case closure. You will be instrumental in identifying illegal activities, documenting probable cause, and preparing detailed reports.Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough criminal investigations using established methodologies.
- Obtain investigative leads, gather factual data, and review evidence.
- Participate in or lead operational planning, searches, seizures, and arrests.
- Prepare comprehensive case reports, briefings, and presentations.
- (GS-13) Apply advanced knowledge of criminal investigative laws, regulations, and precedents to detect and document illegal activity.
Qualifications:
- GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GL-9 level in criminal investigations; or a Ph.D./equivalent doctoral degree (or 3 full years of progressively higher graduate education or an LL.M.) in Criminal Justice, Law and Society, Forensics, Public Safety, Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Justice Administration, Organizational Security and Management, Criminology, Cyber Security, Social Work, or Fire Science; or a combination of both experience and education.
- GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, conducting complex criminal investigations and serving as a lead agent in operations. (Education cannot substitute for experience at this level).
- GS-13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level, applying a wide range of criminal investigative laws/regulations, identifying significant sources of information to detect illegal activity, and demonstrating strong oral/written communication skills. (Education cannot substitute for experience at this level).
