Job Description

Summary

Conduct criminal investigations, from evidence collection to reporting, applying legal frameworks within a federal agency.

Seeking dedicated professionals for a federal agency to conduct comprehensive criminal investigations across multiple grade levels (GS-11, GS-12, GS-13).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute the full scope of criminal investigations, utilizing established methodologies and problem-solving techniques.
  • Gather investigative leads, collect factual data, and thoroughly analyze evidence.
  • Participate in or lead operational planning, searches, seizures, and arrests.
  • Prepare precise and comprehensive case reports upon investigation conclusion.
  • (For higher levels) Apply a broad understanding of criminal investigative laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • (For higher levels) Identify critical information sources to detect illegal activities and establish probable cause.
  • (For higher levels) Communicate investigative findings effectively through oral presentations and written reports.

Qualifications:

Candidates are evaluated based on experience and education for appropriate grade levels.

  • Experience (General Requirement):
* Minimum one year of specialized experience in criminal investigations (equivalent to GS-9, GS-11, or GS-12, depending on target grade). * Experience must include conducting investigations, obtaining leads, participating in operations, reviewing evidence, and preparing reports. * Higher-grade levels require experience of increasing complexity, including leading investigations, applying advanced legal frameworks, and demonstrating strong communication skills.

  • Education (Substitution for GS-11 only):
* A Ph.D., equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education in fields such as Criminal Justice, Law & Society, Forensics, Public Safety, Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Criminology, Cyber Security, or related disciplines. * A combination of specialized experience and graduate education is also accepted for GS-11. * Note: Education cannot substitute for specialized experience at the GS-12 or GS-13 levels.
