## IRS Special Agent
Join the Internal Revenue Service as a Special Agent, investigating complex criminal violations related to financial and business practices.
### Core Responsibilities:
- Conduct criminal investigations into suspected fraud and other financial crimes.
- Collect, assemble, and develop facts, evidence, and pertinent data using various investigative techniques, including personal interviews.
- Analyze and evaluate evidence to draw sound conclusions.
- Prepare comprehensive oral and written investigative reports and presentations.
- Investigate and analyze accounting or auditing of business and commercial practices.
- (GL-09 level adds): Gather intelligence, analyze raw data, investigate complex claims, potentially appear in court, and investigate computerized business/accounting systems.
- *GL-07 Level:**
- **Experience:** One year of specialized experience (equivalent to GL-05 federal service) in criminal investigations. This includes exercising tact, initiative, judgment in collecting evidence, conducting interviews, writing reports, analyzing evidence, *with a focus on accounting/auditing of business practices*.
- **Education (substitute for experience):**
- *GL-09 Level:**
- **Experience:** One year of specialized experience (equivalent to GL-07 federal service) in criminal investigations. This experience must be sufficient to demonstrate the ability to gather intelligence, analyze raw data, prepare comprehensive reports, and investigate *complex* claims involving suspected crimes or fraud, *with a focus on accounting/auditing of business practices*.
- **Education (substitute for experience):**
- *Combination:** You may qualify based on a combination of experience and education.
- **Maximum Entry Age:** Must be referred for selection by the date immediately preceding your 37th birthday (exceptions for prior federal law enforcement or preference-eligible veterans).
- **Physical:** Pass a medical examination. This role involves moderate to arduous physical exertion, use of firearms, exposure to weather, and requires manual dexterity and full function of arms, hands, legs, and feet.
- **Vision:** Specific requirements for near, distant, depth, peripheral vision, and color distinction. Refractive surgery requires specific documentation.
- **Hearing:** Hearing loss must not exceed 30 decibels in either ear across key frequencies; must hear whispered voice at 15 feet without aid.
- **Other Medical:** Must possess emotional and mental stability. All medical requirements must be met at the initial examination/test.
